RECOMMENDATIONS IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
It depresses the central nervous system, reduces its excitability, regulates cardiac function, improves coronary circulation, and increases secretion of the gastrointestinal glands.
Valerian is used as a sedative for chronic functional disorders of the central nervous system, neuroses, hysteria (a neurotic condition), epilepsy, insomnia, migraines, cardiac neuroses and chronic coronary circulatory disorders, heart pain, hypertension, to reduce excitability of the cerebral cortex and reduce vegetative-vascular disorders, palpitations, extrasystole, and paroxysmal tachycardia associated with neurotic conditions. Valerian is also used for stomach neuroses, gastrointestinal glandular dysfunction, liver and biliary tract diseases. It is also used as a sedative for certain types of vitamin deficiencies and for menopausal disorders.
Method of preparation and use:
Pour 1 tablespoon of valerian into a glass of hot boiled water. Cool, strain, and bring the resulting infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take 1/3 cup 3 times daily 30 minutes before meals.
